Foster Application
Fostering means that you are opening your home and heart to an at-risk equine by becoming the primary caregiver until they are adopted, or until WHOA main barn is able to take them into the sanctuary.
Become a foster for WHOA! Foster homes provide shelter, daily care, and general feed for at risk equines we bring into our organization. Each being a unique case, some will go on to be adopted and others will live out their natural life in sanctuary. Fostering can be short and/or long term, we cover medical and podiatry expenses, provide a feed plan, and communicate multiple times per week or even daily if needed.
If you have a space, the time, and would like to help an equine in need, please complete the form below. We would like to know a bit about you, where you're located, experience, and see photos or videos of your property and/or foster space. We require access to shelter with individual feed stations for grain. Secure fencing and daily turn out time.
We like to be engaged and friends with you, ensuring you and the equine are happy and getting the support needed for a successful rehab.
After your application is received and reviewed photos and/or videos of the property the foster equine(s) will live at will be required by either text or email OR and on site inspection if possible by a member of WHOA. Access to clean fresh water is required 24/7 as well as forage (simple grass hay or pasture). You agree to allow WHOA management availability and access to the equine(s) at any time it is requested or scheduled. You agree to provide at minimum weekly photo updates of the foster equine(s), and in cases of starvation rehabilitation tracking of weight gain progress. Potential adopters will need to be able to meet with the equine upon scheduling with foster, they will need a separate and quiet space away from other animals to be able to assess and determine if there is a connection.
