Peaches - Owner surrender 2/10/2024
She is 20+ years old and will remain in sanctuary due to previous founder, EMS, PPID, and insulin resistance.
Poptart February 16, 2024: This little guy lost his best friend suddenly and was absolutely distraught, he was going to injure himself without intervention. So we accepted him as an owner surrender and got him right into our mini herd for companionship. on his 2nd night with us and after choosing Dazzle as his soul healer his heart was so broken that a couple inches of gate between them was too much. Since he arrived he has regained self confidence and has bonded with Peaches and Willow. He will remain in sanctuary to protect his spirit from separation again.
Koda is a mid teens bay mini that comes to us as an owner surrender. He’s a fun little daily joy that will live in sanctuary.
On June 3, 2024 we assisted animal services with seizing over 90 animals, among them was 5 horses ( 4 mini’s and 1 standard). Two of the mini’s came to our sanctuary were they remain, the other 2 mini’s were placed in permanent care on a trusted local farm. The Pinto mare has been in board & training and looks forward to moving into her soon foster (to hopefully adopt) home in January.
Rusty is an Owner surrender from late March 2024 due to founder. He was rehabilitated in central oregon and then moved to us in Eugene where he went on to be a companion to a lonely senior with the same dietary restrictions. He will join the sanctuary once his time there is complete.
the same days as we worked the AC case we also purchased and rescued 2 mules from a Washington feed lot. They are bonded and were facing being separated with unknown fates. We named them Sam and Diane. Sam regained weight quickly and takes his job as Diane companion seriously. He enjoys the freedom of grazing during the day and the safety of the barn at night. Diane was a challenge from the start. She refused many meals we offered and only wanted the low sugar low calorie option hay, which doesn’t add pounds very well although it provided forage and nutrition. She had a brand new placed HOT brand on her shoulder that wasn’t healing, once that was corrected she had a pressure sore open on her hip that wouldn’t heal for months after trying a multitude of creams and having the vet look at it. Finally, once she gained the weight back she needed and all the wounds were healed we discovered she has a faulty heart. She went to OSU for diagnostics and is home at the sanctuary for hospice care. Diane passed of heart failure in December 2024.
Ed or sometimes known as Edweird at the barn, arrived April 3, 2024 as a neglect surrender. He is a 24 year old registered QH who spent his youth with a Sheriff department, earned his Search and Rescue certification, proudly walked in parades and safely guided riders down trails. After a successful rehabilitation he has been adopted by one of our very own and will remain at the rescue barn for the remainder of his life.
Fern and Gully: August 3, 2024 After receiving multiple requests to help as a herd of 20+ mini’s were set to sale in a private auction we made arrangements to bid on the bonded senior pair. The red gelding, now named Gully in honor of his purchasing sponsor, was very thin and presenting signs of cushings. He was aged by our vet at “not yet 30, but close” - his companion mare we named Fern is the sweetest little girl. Both are doing well in sanctuary
Velvet was purchased at the same private auction as Fern and Gully, she was the next after them as “worst of the group” with ribs and spine showing. She went to Happy Trails Horse Rescue in Bend as a rescue to rescue transfer and has since found a loving forever home.
We purchased Willow with the help of donations from the Eugene Livestock auction on October 5th 2024. She is mostly blind and untouchable. While she’s been with us she has settled into sanctuary with the others in the mini herd and is finally relaxed and happy. She is fearful of human touch which we are working with her to trust more and allow us near.
